CACI has published a moving eulogy to Michael Daniels, its former chairman and longtime supporter who passed away last week. The obituary highlights Daniels’ decades of involvement with the company, which dates back to the 1970s when he first joined and was reinvigorated when he was added to the board of directors in 2013 and named chairman in the wake of the legendary Jack London’s passing in 2021.

“Known for his candor, patience, and clarity, he earned a reputation as a compassionate mentor who told people what they needed to hear — not just what they wanted to hear,” CACI writes.

“Mike was among the most well-known, respected and accomplished government contracting executives I’ve had the privilege to meet in my career.” —Jim Garrettson

Daniels led a rich and rewarding career, which included work with a prior iteration of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency on an early incarnation of the internet and email technology. He was responsible for some of the more impressive business transactions of the last several decades, such as his advisement on the acquisition of Computer Systems Management and its ultimate sale for many times its purchase price.

Why Mike Daniels Will Be Remembered

The latter transaction occurred while Daniels was at SAIC, where he worked for many years and cultivated an extensive partnership with Dr. Robert Beyster. By all accounts—CACI’s tribute includes many adoring reflections from Daniels’ colleagues—Daniels was a leader with a great deal of professional foresight, technological expertise and admirable work ethic.

“Mike was among the most well-known, respected and accomplished government contracting executives I’ve had the privilege to meet in my career. His contributions to the industry will be felt and remembered for generations,” shared Jim Garrettson, CEO and founder of Executive Mosaic, the capital region’s leading GovCon events and media organization.
